Count Goffredo di Conversano (1100), who founded the largest territorial lordship in Apulia, remains largely overlooked in specialized literature, especially when it comes to his influence on the architecture of Southern Apulia. Accompanying his political rise there was the foundation of several episcopal seats and Benedictine monasteries in the territory south- east of Bari, in Terra d’Otranto, and in Basilicata. The aim of this contribution is to lay the groundwork for a reflection on the possible relationship between the architectures sponsored by conte Goffredo in southern Apulia to identify common architectural elements and models.
