This paper aims to offer as complete a summary as possible of our knowledge of Chaonia in Epirus (southern Albania) from classical antiquity to the Hellenistic period, a task which can now be attempted thanks to a significant rise in the amount of fieldwork done in this area in recent decades. The overwhelming majority of the data presented here results from sustained Italo-Albanian research campaigns in the city of Phoenice and the surrounding area.
