The sanctity of the mountain is found in the cosmological systems of many Asian cultures, where this element represents an epicenter of hierophanies and is often conceived as axis mundi or imago mundi (Eliade 1957: 64). However, it remains appropriate to investigate the traits the sacred mountain assumed within specific contexts since the multifaceted historical and/or literary transpositions of the phenomenon reveal a series of dynamics between society and territory, which include perception, use, and construction of spaces loaded with symbolic value. This contribution intends to compare archaeological evidence and literary sources circumscribed to a consistent geographical (Western Zagros) and chronological (1st millennium CE) framework to create a dossier on the articulated relationship between community and landscape.

Abstract
The sanctity of the mountain is found in the cosmological systems of many Asian cultures, where this element represents an epicenter of hierophanies and is often conceived as axis mundi or imago mundi (Eliade 1957: 64). However, it remains appropriate to investigate the traits the sacred mountain assumed within specific contexts since the multifaceted historical and/or literary transpositions of the phenomenon reveal a series of dynamics between society and territory, which include perception, use, and construction of spaces loaded with symbolic value. This contribution intends to compare archaeological evidence and literary sources circumscribed to a consistent geographical (Western Zagros) and chronological (1st millennium CE) framework to create a dossier on the articulated relationship between community and landscape.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
