The coastal region of Ancient Epirus, particularly the strip of land facing the island of Corfu and known in antiquity as Cestrine, has preserved several toponymic echoes of the Trojan saga. These persistences were systematised and channelled by Virgil onto the city of Butrint, the focal point of Augustan ideology for the entire region, but they are certainly older and served very different political agendas at different times. This contribution aims to provide a starting point for their reasoned analysis, against the backdrop of the renewed archaeological interest in the Cestrine region.

Abstract
The coastal region of Ancient Epirus, particularly the strip of land facing the island of Corfu and known in antiquity as Cestrine, has preserved several toponymic echoes of the Trojan saga. These persistences were systematised and channelled by Virgil onto the city of Butrint, the focal point of Augustan ideology for the entire region, but they are certainly older and served very different political agendas at different times. This contribution aims to provide a starting point for their reasoned analysis, against the backdrop of the renewed archaeological interest in the Cestrine region.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
