Three different canonical documents produced in Alexandria in the fourth century are discussed for what concerns their circulation in the Syriac culture: the Responses by Bishop Timothy I; the Letter of the Council of Nicaea to the churches of Egypt; the canons of Peter of Alexandria on the believers that committed apostasy during the Diocletianic persecution (lapsi). The date and milieu of translation from Greek to Syriac are discussed, as well as the variants of the Syriac text in relation to the Greek one, with edition of the supplementary textual material.

Abstract
Three different canonical documents produced in Alexandria in the fourth century are discussed for what concerns their circulation in the Syriac culture: the Responses by Bishop Timothy I; the Letter of the Council of Nicaea to the churches of Egypt; the canons of Peter of Alexandria on the believers that committed apostasy during the Diocletianic persecution (lapsi). The date and milieu of translation from Greek to Syriac are discussed, as well as the variants of the Syriac text in relation to the Greek one, with edition of the supplementary textual material.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
