In the description of objects to dress or make up statues of gods and goddesses, we find sometimes the term palaḫša- among a huge array of paraphernalia listed in Hittite religious texts. It is generally assumed to be a divine attribute of the war-goddess Ištar/Šawošga, otherwise of her servants, Ninatta and Kulitta. The term seems to designate a kind of dress, perhaps a mantel. Within the corpus of the Hittite texts, it appears at least once preceded by the determinative for clothes (TÚG). The comparative iconographic and epigraphic analysis between (TÚG)palaḫša- and the classic aegis aims to highlight differences and common features of the two divine attributes.

Abstract
In the description of objects to dress or make up statues of gods and goddesses, we find sometimes the term palaḫša- among a huge array of paraphernalia listed in Hittite religious texts. It is generally assumed to be a divine attribute of the war-goddess Ištar/Šawošga, otherwise of her servants, Ninatta and Kulitta. The term seems to designate a kind of dress, perhaps a mantel. Within the corpus of the Hittite texts, it appears at least once preceded by the determinative for clothes (TÚG). The comparative iconographic and epigraphic analysis between (TÚG)palaḫša- and the classic aegis aims to highlight differences and common features of the two divine attributes.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
