Places of Worship of the Chinese Population in Rome as an Indicator of Territorial Stabilisation

Attention to the religious dimension is fundamental in the process of integration and coexistence in a multi-ethnic country. Places of meeting and prayer are important references for the development of identity and for the social needs of foreigners, as well as for the territorialisation process. Investigating how the religious and sacred dimension intervenes to qualify and structure the territory with the three main spatial strategies of place keeping, place making, and place seeking represents an indicator related to the degree of a community’s inclusion in society. This article examines the places of worship frequented by Chinese citizens residing in Rome. It highlights their location within the urban space and their main functional characteristics as indicators of the community’s territorial stabilisation in Italy
