Among the many villages destroyed by the 1968 earthquake, Gibellina is the most famous. The architectural and urban policy followed by the mayor Ludovico Corrao has meant that this small town became the symbol of a territorial system, and the great Cretto that Alberto Burri built on the remains of the old Gibellina is the symbol of a land cancelled by the earthquake. But beyond this city, many others enjoy minor fame but have parallel stories of rebirths after a clean slate.
