In this section, the historical and sociolinguistic conditions of the contact between Syriac and Middle Persian are analyzed. The focus is particularly on the linguistic interference phenomena that affected Syriac and, to a lesser extent, Middle Persian, largely due to the presence of bilingual speakers. This interference in Syriac extends beyond the lexicon, influencing phonology and morphosyntax as well.
