This article reconstructs the theoretical assumptions underlying Nardi’s criticism of Aquinas’ thought. Nardi recognises in Aquinas a great interpreter of Aristotle. However, he thinks that his apologetical effort to reconcile Aristotle and Christianity have not only led to a Christianisation of Aristotle but, even more seriously, to an Aristotelianisation of Christianity. According to Nardi this makes Aquinas the least modern of medieval theologians, a thinker in whom the spirituality of Christianity, somewhat of a prelude to modern subjectivism, is overwhelmed by Aristotelian naturalism

Abstract
This article reconstructs the theoretical assumptions underlying Nardi’s criticism of Aquinas’ thought. Nardi recognises in Aquinas a great interpreter of Aristotle. However, he thinks that his apologetical effort to reconcile Aristotle and Christianity have not only led to a Christianisation of Aristotle but, even more seriously, to an Aristotelianisation of Christianity. According to Nardi this makes Aquinas the least modern of medieval theologians, a thinker in whom the spirituality of Christianity, somewhat of a prelude to modern subjectivism, is overwhelmed by Aristotelian naturalismFile | Dimensione | Formato | |
