The volume that includes the paper analyzes foreign immigration in Rome and its province. It has traits that set it apart from the rest of the country: the presence of a strong female component, the incidence of residence permits for religious reasons, the specificity of a regional attraction that favors the links on intercontinental scale. The paper address the following topics: migration strategies and family structures, family and housing conditions of foreign minors, mixed couples as chance integration. The empirical analysis is based on data from the 2001 Italian Census, which allow a detailed insight in terms of spatial distribution of foreigners in Rome and province, and in reference to the countries of origin of foreigners.
