Rinascere nel Veda attraverso l’insegnamento. Il rapporto fra maestro e allievo nell’antichità sudasiatica

In this essay, the focus is on the study and teaching of the Vedas as prescribed and preserved in the Vedic texts, encompassing both the strictly ritualistic (Saṃhitā and Brāhmaṇa) and the juridical-normative aspects (Dharmasūtra and Dharmaśāstra). Specifically, it explores several factors governing the relationship between teacher and student, functioning as markers to maintain distinctions based on social classes, including rank, birth, and function. Contrasting these dynamics, attention is drawn to the centuries immediately preceding our era, when instances of connection and divergence between the teachings propagated by Siddhārtha Gautama and the Brahmanical educational system emerge. This suggests that certain ethical and theoretical Buddhist elements found receptive ground within the seemingly entrenched Brahmanical context of Vedic transmission systems.

In questo saggio si affronta il tema dello studio e dell’insegnamento del Veda così come vengono prescritti e preservati nei corpora testuali che del Veda fanno parte, in ambito sia squisitamente rituale (Saṃhitā e Brāhmaṇa), sia giuridico-normativo (Dharmasūtra e Dharmaśāstra). In particolare, si esplorano alcuni fattori che regolavano il rapporto fra precettore e studente e che fungevano da marcatori per tenere distinte le classi sociali per rango, nascita e funzione. In contrapposizione a queste dinamiche, si propone di volgere lo sguardo anche ai secoli appena precedenti la nostra èra, quando si riscontrano elementi di contatto e contrasto fra gli insegnamenti promossi da Siddhārtha Gautama e il sistema educativo brahmanico, per suggerire che alcune istanze etiche e teoretiche buddhiste abbiano trovato terreno fertile nel contesto brahmanico apparentemente cristallizzato nel sistema di trasmissione vedico.
