L’identità figurale e l’identità narrativa delle superfici architettoniche graffite. Il cortile della Cancelleria Vecchia

The topic of architectural surfaces is related to the perception of the Architecture itself. This perception is generated by the relationship of the architecture with the context, with its spatiality, and precisely defined by the surfaces. Therefore, the issue deals with aspects involving questions beyond the simple outer shell’s analysis, to avoid the value loss of the architecture. The sgraffiti surfaces in the cortile of the Cancelleria Vecchia in Rome, whether original or belonging to later stage, can’t be considered only the ‘decorated skin’ of the walls. Actually, the sgraffiti surfaces contribute to the “passage from configuration to shape”, as they are a component of the structure, in which the expression of aesthetic and historic values, determining the restoration outcome, is embedded.

Il tema delle superfici d’architettura è connesso alla percezione della stessa architettura; questa è generata dal rapporto con il contesto ma anche dalla sua spazialità, definita proprio dalle superfici. Pertanto l’argomento tocca aspetti che si estendono oltre l’analisi del mero strato esterno, pena la perdita valoriale dell’architettura. Le superfici graffite del cortile della Cancelleria Vecchia in Roma, che siano originarie o che appartengano ad una fase successiva, in quanto collaboranti “al transito da configurazione a forma”, cioè partecipi all’esplicitazione dell’architettura, non possono essere considerate semplicemente la ‘pelle decorata’ del supporto murario, ma necessariamente un tutt’uno con questo, nel quale s’incarna l’espressione di valori estetici e storici, determinanti l’esito del restauro.
