This essay discussed all main categories of readers of early modern printed playbooks and give examples of how early readers interacted with the printed text by annotating it, by copying extracts in their commonplace books or leaving other marks, ranging from signatures that enable to establish provenance to corrections which anticipate later editorial approaches.
