Urban gardening is a global, diverse and informal movement encompassing a wide range of initiatives through which people collectively design, organise, realise and take care of public green space in their own cities by transforming urban voids and neglected spaces into pleasant and vibrant places. 2 Today, urban gardening is a developed (often institutionalised) phenomenon worldwide and European cities stand out as some of the most prolific contexts, thanks to the significant support received in the last twenty years from both macro-regional and local institutions .
