La città per Anelli

In the history of cities, drawing a perimeter, a shape that closes in on itself, is the first founding act. For Rome, this act is at the origin of the myth. The ring shape (from the Latin anulus, small circle) encloses, protects, and distinguishes what is inside from what is outside, it defines a space, but at the same time connects and shortens the distances between places in radial urban structures. The work proposes a new look at Rome through these real or imagined traces, with a collection of projects, maps, photographs, and interpretations that the circular form and its countless variations have acquired through functional necessity or imagination.

Tracciare un perimetro, una forma che si chiude su se stessa, è, nella storia delle città, il primo atto fondativo. Per Roma questo atto è all’origine del mito. La forma ad anello (dal latino anulus, “piccolo cerchio”) racchiude, protegge e distingue ciò che è all’interno da ciò che è l’esterno, definisce uno spazio, ma allo stesso tempo connette e accorcia le distanze tra i luoghi delle strutture urbane radiali. Il contributo propone quindi uno sguardo inedito su Roma attraverso queste tracce, reali o immaginate, con una raccolta di progetti, carte, fotografie e interpretazioni che la forma circolare e le sue innumerevoli variazioni assumono per necessità funzionale o immaginazione.
