Progettare per sopravvivere. L'utopia della ricostruzione di Adriano Olivetti.

Adriano Olivetti (Ivrea 1901-Aigle 1960) was an entrepreneur, politician, publisher, and urban planner who marked the economic-political history of post-World War II Italy. Olivetti’s thought pursued for much of his life a political, business and cultural project that aimed to overcome the dichotomy between social solidarity and economic profit, building environments in which work efficiency sought to go hand in hand with the development of collective happiness. The basic unit of this vision was precisely the “concrete Community”, understood as a space of mutual recognition and support among human beings. I will focus in particular on his 1945 text, L’ordine politico delle Comunità, in which his utopia of reconstruction emerges in the form of an institutional and constitutional reformulation of the Italian state. In it, urban planning plays an essential role, having the political and ethical responsibility to reshape a better society.
