The present research deals with an important transitional period, namely the passage between the Early Bronze Age (hereafter EBA) and the Middle Bronze Age (hereafter MBA) in Upper Mesopotamia. A series of fundamental questions are at the basis of this research: first of all, if a climatic crisis, the so-called “4.2 ka BP abrupt event”, really caused the demise of the urban communities of Northern Mesopotamia, or if other factors are to be taken into consideration; if the transition between the EBA and the MBA was characterized by social, cultural and economic continuity or by rupture; if the birth of the Kingdom of Upper Mesopotamia (late XIX – early XVIII century BC) was influenced in some ways by the events that changed the political landscape of the region at the end of the III millennium BC, and if the above-mentioned kingdom could be studied through an integrated approach, which employs archaeological, textual and environmental sources.

Abstract
The present research deals with an important transitional period, namely the passage between the Early Bronze Age (hereafter EBA) and the Middle Bronze Age (hereafter MBA) in Upper Mesopotamia. A series of fundamental questions are at the basis of this research: first of all, if a climatic crisis, the so-called “4.2 ka BP abrupt event”, really caused the demise of the urban communities of Northern Mesopotamia, or if other factors are to be taken into consideration; if the transition between the EBA and the MBA was characterized by social, cultural and economic continuity or by rupture; if the birth of the Kingdom of Upper Mesopotamia (late XIX – early XVIII century BC) was influenced in some ways by the events that changed the political landscape of the region at the end of the III millennium BC, and if the above-mentioned kingdom could be studied through an integrated approach, which employs archaeological, textual and environmental sources.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
