Analisi archeologica del Sepolcreto della Chiesa della Beata Vergine Annunciata in Ca’ Granda. Un approccio stratigrafico

In 2019, the University of Milan started an interdisciplinary project concerning the archaeological excavation and anthro pological study of the remains inside the Ca’ Granda sepulchral chambers. The crypt of the Church of the Beata Vergine Annun ciata is constituted of 14 underground chambers that were used during the 17th century as burial areas. In a preliminary phase, a survey of all the underground chambers was organized, in or der to graphically and photographically document their con servation, using photogrammetry. Once the survey operations were completed, the excavation was undertaken inside one of the largest chambers, named O. The excavation was conducted with stratigraphic methods, and the layers were identified by observing the conservation, the colors and the orientation of the bones. It was then possible to establish that the chambers were primary burial places instead of ossuaries.
