Relazionale

What is the point of talking about relational art? Can there be art that is not the result of a relationship between artist and audience, between author and viewer, between element and context, between frame and subject? Evidently not. And yet, in the last fifty years the theme of relationship and social bonding has become crucial in art to the point of identifying a specific strand. If this has happened, it is because at the very heart of society, in the very structure of the social bond, a vacuum has been created, a crack in which what we are accustomed to considering the human and social connotations of reality are at risk of being wrecked.

SI tratta di un piccolo estratto che anticipa un lavoro più ampio (in corso di pubblicazione) sulle trasformazioni del Legame Sociale, in cui viene esplorato il contributo dell’arte alla riflessività sociale. Che senso ha parlare di arte relazionale? Può esistere un’arte che non sia il frutto di una relazione – tra artista e pubblico, tra autore e fruitore, tra elemento e contesto, tra cornice e soggetto? Evidentemente no. E tuttavia, negli ultimi cinquant’anni il tema della relazione e del legame sociale è divenuto cruciale nell’arte al punto da identificare un filone specifico. Se ciò è avvenuto è perché proprio nel cuore della società, nella struttura stessa del legame sociale, si è creato un vuoto, una crepa in cui rischiano di naufragare quelli che siamo abituati a considerare i connotati umani e sociali della realtà.
