In Italy, the metropolisation process and indiscriminate land consumption have had negative effects on more than half of the national territory and in particular the most usable areas in terms of urbanization, including the peri-urban areas, the plain and low hills and, above all, coastal areas. Place of transition and interaction between the terrestrial and marine ecosystem, in which the natural and anthropic elements become more delicate and complex, the coastlands are configured, due to their high biodiversity, as strong producers of ecosystem services and they represent an underestimated, but essential contribution for the construction of a new welfare. Along the Lazio coast, the proximity to the city of Rome strongly influences the connections between internal and coastal areas. The role of the existing natural and historical-cultural heritage and the anthropic pressure that the metropolitan area exerts on the peripheral territories, represent a central issue in terms of transformations and consumption of existing resources. This coastal area is therefore an emblematic example of how the marine ecosystem integrates with the terrestrial one, constituting an environment full of tangible signs of the exceptional natural and anthropic heritage stratified over the centuries with the advance of the coastline.

Abstract
This coastal area is therefore an emblematic example of how the marine ecosystem integrates with the terrestrial one, constituting an environment full of tangible signs of the exceptional natural and anthropic heritage stratified over the centuries with the advance of the coastline.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
