In my introduction to World-wide Shakespeare, I propose productive and original ways of understanding the cultural value and role of Shakespeare in contemporary film and performance. Most crucial is the need to reconsider 'global Shakespeare' not as 'other' but as a vital element of the contemporary reception and contemporary uses (creative and ideological) of Shakespeare in an increasingly globalized cultural contexts.
