Twenty-five years after the publication of the volume: "The temple of Apollo in Circus and the birth of the Augustan architectural language", which gave a more complete form to my research on Roman architecture carried out during the three-year period of my PhD 1990-92 at the Department of History and Restoration of Architecture of Sapienza University of Rome, I decided to edit an English edition, which could make the book accessible even beyond the relatively limited audience of readers of Italian. However, I soon abandoned the intention of a total remake of the text and the illustrative apparatus, still recognizing the substantial validity of both, and I limited myself to some necessary clarifications and corrections, and to some reconstructive images developed with more innovative techniques. Also comforted by a good reception from the reviewers, I considered the contents of the volume still valid, and the adjustments that could be made not so fundamental as to make a remake obligatory, one might say, a fundamentis.
