An introduction to network analysis in intellectual capital research

The purpose of this chapter is to introduce network analysis and its main principles (Wasserman and Faust, 1994; Haythornthwaite, 1996; Provan et al., 2005; Scott, 2011) to intellectual capital researchers who may not be familiar with this research method. Thus, this chapter provides an overview of network analysis and the opportunities to apply this to intellectual capital research (Trequattrini et al., 2012; Trequattrini et al., 2015b; Trequattrini et al., 2017), especially intellectual capital measurement. Results are discussed across the international context showing applications, principles and characteristics (Trequattrini et al., 2015a) that illuminate the value of network analysis in intellectual capital research.
