The ‘Various Landscapes’ of the Ostiense Coast. Cultural and Environmental Heritage

The essay analyzes the various ‘different landscapes’ of the Ostiense coastal system intended as strength of the geographical considered area; in this frame, the territory is perceived as a resource, seen as a set of elements settled over time. Ostiennse coast is full of ancient, medieval, and modern settlements and testimonies representin an exceptional archive regarding the reconstructionof the main phases characterizing the history, the human and wild environment, over the time. Based on archaeological and historical data, as well as on iconographic and photographic documentation, the research aims at reconstructing the various steps describing the settlements’evolution, highlighting the most significant stages; the relation with geomorphological changes, significantly influencing human activities, will be also considered.

Il contributo analizza i diversi “paesaggi” del sistema costiero ostiense inteso come punto di forza dell’area geografica considerata; in tale contesto, il territorio è percepito come una risorsa, visto come un insieme di elementi sedimentati nel tempo. La costa ostiennse è ricca di insediamenti antichi, medievali e moderni e di testimonianze che rappresentano un archivio eccezionale per quanto riguarda la ricostruzione delle principali fasi che hanno caratterizzato la storia, l’ambiente umano e naturale, nel tempo. Sulla base dei dati archeologici e storici, nonché della documentazione iconografica e fotografica, la ricerca mira a ricostruire i vari momenti che descrivono l’evoluzione degli insediamenti, evidenziandone le fasi più significative; viene, inoltre, considerata la relazione con i cambiamenti geomorfologici che influenzano, significativamente, le diverse attività umane.
