T(h)race. Thracian Ethos. Between coast, island and sea

The Mediterranean, the sea between the lands, also refers semantically to a water-lapped landscape that, in the collective imagination, evokes events of land and sea, of mythology, history, and socio-political issues, today constituting an area of diffuse, handed-down civilization. It is a setting marked by a profound and ongoing stratification of signs on the territorial palimpsest – sea and land –, the outcome of an unceasing process of flows like migration, trade, travel and tourism that are articulated and alternate with one another in time and space. This process has left indelible traces of a diffuse historical and cultural heritage that remains as an element, tangible and intangible, comprehensive and multidimensional.
