The volume collects the contributions of the Study Day in memory of Carlo Mongardini, which was held on February 10, 2022 in the graduation hall of the Faculty of Political Sciences, Sociology, Communication of Sapienza University of Rome. Through the testimonies and memories of students and colleagues, the text aims to capture the spirit of Carlo Mongardini's study and research activity and to prove the common thread that binds his many interests. As it emerges from the various contributions, a line of continuity can be found in choices of merit and method that lead back to the critical analysis of late modernity and to a gaze always oriented towards the European perspective. The great confidence in this perspective is demonstrated by the establishment of the Amalfi European Prize for Sociology and Social Sciences, a point of reference for European sociology in the last decades of the twentieth century and a privileged space for the elaboration of ideas, beyond the particularisms of thought. Alongside the profile of a scholar, it emerges the dimension of the teacher for generations of students, with whom he generously shared ideas and projects. He offered them a model of intellectual who never stops studying and planning cultural initiatives, inside and outside the university, to counter the trivialization of contemporary public debate. His teaching leaves an important legacy to continue reflecting on the cultural processes that have supported the ethical, relational and social impoverishment that makes our societies and democracies fragile.

Abstract
His teaching leaves an important legacy to continue reflecting on the cultural processes that have supported the ethical, relational and social impoverishment that makes our societies and democracies fragile.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
