Contributi sull'attività architettonica di Orazio Torriani tra Roma e Bracciano nella prima metà del Seicento. Contributions on the architectural activity of Orazio Torriani between Rome and Bracciano in the first half of the 17th century

The volume brings together various contributions on the design activity of Orazio Torriani (1578-1657) in Rome and in the Bracciano area in the first half of the seventeenth century. The aim is to outline an overview of the most significant aspects of the architecture of this non-secondary interpreter of the Roman culture of the time. The articulation of the chapters, the works examined and the topics addressed are aimed at systematising the information collected and processed over time, at analyzing the events of his life and, above all, at deepening his Roman works attributed and of dubious authorship, his interventions in sacred building a Rome, its architectural production in the feud of Bracciano and its altars and sacred apparatuses. To which is added a study on its operations in Sicily (by Domenica Sutera). Furthermore, the essays give an account of some unpublished acquisitions on the multifaceted artistic activity of Orazio Torriani, in collaboration with his father Francesco, his brother Nicola and many artists of his generation, in the historical-cultural context of Roman influence in the first decades of the seventeenth century .

Il volume raccoglie diversi contributi sull’attività progettuale di Orazio Torriani (1578-1657) a Roma e nel territorio di Bracciano, nella prima metà del Seicento. L’obiettivo è quello di delineare una panoramica sugli aspetti più significativi dell’architettura di questo interprete non secondario della cultura romana dell’epoca. L’articolazione dei capitoli, le opere esaminate e i temi affrontati sono finalizzati a sistematizzare le informazioni raccolte ed elaborate nel tempo, ad analizzare le vicende della sua vita e, soprattutto, ad approfondire le sue opere romane attribuite e di dubbia paternità, i suoi interventi nell’edilizia sacra a Roma, la sua produzione architettonica nel feudo di Bracciano e i suoi altari e apparati sacri. A cui si aggiunge uno studio sulla sua operatività in Sicilia (di Domenica Sutera). Inoltre, i saggi danno conto di alcune inedite acquisizioni sulla multiforme attività artistica di Orazio Torriani, in collaborazione con il padre Francesco, il fratello Nicola e molti artisti della sua generazione, nel contesto storico-culturale d’influenza romana nei primi decenni del XVII secolo.
