Abstract

“Dreamer of endless visions” (O. Dinale, 1924) is perhaps the best definition of Mario Palanti man and architect. With his works, marked by a visionary conception of architecture, made of fantastic projects and monumental breathtaking buildings, he is one of the protagonists of the “circuit of relationships ... binding from the last decades of the 19th century Milan and Buenos Aires” (Daguerre p. 81). In Argentina Palanti works mainly for private clients, consisting of countrymen who made a fortune, and tries to build a “modern style” representative of the time and of the place, but also largely derived from the repertoire of medieval architecture. In this environment Palanti can express that particular “way” that distinguishes his language. The architecture thus becomes an expression of the economic wealth of a country and a symbol of progress to which also contributed some Italian immigrants become successful men.
