Citizen science is a model of bottom-up knowledge production that is increasingly developing in epidemiological research on pollution and public health. An Italian case regards the "Aria di ricerca in Valle del Serchio" - "Research air in the Serchio Valley - (Province of Lucca, Region of Tuscany) project as part of the European CitieS-Health project, which aims to involve citizens in all phases of the research. Hence, the rise of new ethical challenges. First of all with regard to the question of responsible conduct of those who carry out scientific activities. The paper briefly reports the beginning and aims of this participatory research process.
