Evidence shows that the subjective digital vaginal examination for the purpose of determining the position, rotation, and descent of the fetal head during delivery may turn out inaccurate, in addition to causing discomfort to the patients involved [1, 2] (Fig. 52.1). Hence, as recent studies have indicated, the assessment of fetal head descent through intrapartum ultrasound can go a long way toward offsetting such limitations [3].
