This chapter will present the EU’s overarching policy frameworks and initiatives in the Indo-Pacific from the inception of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (1992) to the release of the EU Indo-Pacific Strategy, placing emphasis on the changes in the geopolitical landscape. Starting from this background, the following section will focus on the Union’s relations with four selected countries/group of countries, namely China, Japan, India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
