The essay deals with Nezâmi’s poem Haft peykar (or Bahrâm-nâme, composed in 1197) and the figure of Barhâm Gur (421-438 CE) in the historical sources, in the Shâhnâme, and in other texts predating Nezâmi’s poem. An analysis of the development of the Bahrâm Gur romance before Nezâmi, and of the influence of the romance of Bahrâm Chubin on the latter is also discussed. Other poems in response to Nezâmi’s poem are analysed. The fortune of the saga of Bahrâm until Europe in the Renaissance is also considered
