The essay deals with Nezâmi’s poem Leyli and Majnun (composed in 1188), Nezâmi’s most famous poem and one of the most beloved love stories in the literature of the Islamic world. The problem of the text of the poem is critically addressed. In this context, an assessment of Nezâmi’s contribution to the re-reading of the story is also suggested. Other poems in response to Nezâmi’s poem are discussed and analysed
