The aim of the research is two develop an intercultural reading of the dynamics of value assessment developed by a heritage community towards the site where it lives, considered under two different cultural perspectives: the Chinese and the Italian. Two very factual case studies will be taken as comparative standpoints, both of which are well known by both parts as they have been subject of previous conferences and site visits: Rome and the Rione Esquilino and Suzhou and the Shangta historic area. Visiting professorship will allow professor Dong to investigate the Italian case and develop consistent direct experience of the Italian case study, also on behalf of the long-lasting research/action developed by proponent professor Salvo on these grounds, together with a vast and interdisciplinary research group acting under the convention 'Esquilino chiama Roma'.
