The contribution questions the relationship between technique and form of a significant period in the history of the evolution of design, meaning this term in the extended and interdisciplinary sense of the avant-garde of the twentieth century, with a critical historical analysis of experiments carried out in post-revolutionary Russia. In considering the theses of the Soviet architect Moisei Yakovlevich Ginzburg (1892-1946), who in his Stil 'i epokha: ocherki o sovremennoy arkhitekture, 1924 (Style and epoch: issues in modern architecture, 1984) considers pre-conditions of modernity styles and concepts from antiquity to the Middle Ages, the paper offers an in-depth study of the “objective method” used in the context of Vchutemas-Vchutein (1920-1930), the Moscow School of Architecture and Design coeval at the Bauhaus of Gropius. The scientific references pursued in the applications of this methodology concern the design of spaces and objects, consistently with new technologies and instruments. In particular, in relation to the radical constructivist vision, the new dimension of the habitat will be investigated with respect to the experimentation on the color of internal surfaces and furnishings, a theme that offers comparisons with contemporary architecture and design of the Modern Movement.
