The article discusses the notion of neutralization in general and with reference to the axiom of non-overlapping phonemes. Our goal is to show that neutralization is to be located not in the phonetico-phonological domain, but rather in the morphonological one. We conclude that formulating neutralization in somewhat more rigorous terms of the so-called multidimensional grammar makes this notion itself trivial and theoretically superfluous.
