The aim of the paper is to highlight Vincenzo Fasolo’s inclination toward the conservation of the urban heritage, as well as his sensibility in evoking the tradition to create the “new” city. Two examples illustrate his approach: his works on Ostia Nuova and the project for the reconstruction of the area around Ponte Vecchio in Florence. Both the situations reveal the application of a “historic method” achieved through intense planning, scholarship and research.
