SubLimen landscapes. Mediterranean actions, reactions, and relationships: the Adriatic coast between loss and regeneration

It is not about the ability to looking at, but more the desire to do so, «come un palombaro che si immerge nella superficie» (Calvino, 1983). Writing about a journey means giving a representation of the events, which moves both from the general to the particular and from the particular to the general, it means finding a new method of approaching what surrounds us. In a specific way, this trip talks about the effects of climate change in the Mediterranean area, with reference to the risk of coastal flooding caused by sea level rise in an expected medium and long-term time horizon. A journey that starts from the Adriatic coast, with a privileged focus on the urban area of Ravenna (with some forays into neighbouring areas: Piallassa della Baiona and Prato Barenicolo, Saline di Cervia). A journey into the SubLimen territories: places "below the threshold" , in transition, where the past, present, and future landscape touch, intertwine each other; a journey through “suspended” territories, because affected by a risk phenomenon, by a potential loss, which brings with it an opportunity for a physical and a conceptual regeneration, in ecological key.
