In the multi-party system that emerged after twenty years of dictatorship, these movements played an important political role. They were able to bring out issues, problems, and possible policies which eventually find political responses through their mobilization and the pressure they exert on the parties and the institutions. The article discusses the main historical contribution of the movements to Italian republican history in this phase.
