Abstract
Latin commentators and grammarians employ (rarely) the adjective sordidus and the noun sordes to describe words, constructions and style in general. In this paper I analyze and compare the relevant passages in order to illustrate the proper meaning of these words in context. The notion of sordidus in grammatical texts is mainly related to the sphere of language"s grammatical correctness; sometimes it describes sounds, which can be impure, unclear, and therefore a hoarse voice can be said sordida (Sen. contr. 1 praef. 16).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
