EKLIPSE is an initiative, within the Horizon 2020 framework, to bring science and policymakers together to support evidence-based decision-making on biodiversity and ecosystem services. In 2017, the French Ministry in charge of the Environment sent EKLIPSE a Direct Policy Request: ‘Which types and characteristics of urban green and blue space have an impact on mental health and well-being?’ The aim of this request was to provide recommendations regarding the design, management, and creation of natural spaces in urban or suburban areas to promote the mental health of urbanites. Natural environments and accessible green and blue spaces play a direct and indirect role in health and well-being.
