The symbiotic relationship between landscape design and archaeological projects could represent an unlimited resource regarding the creation of new public spaces. Specifically, in this essay, we focus on how landscape architecture responds to areas encompassing abandoned archaeological remains with the aim of revitalizing these areas by designing new open spaces. The archaeological ruins we focus on in this essay are very different from each other. They may be, for example, sacred places and monuments, parts of cities and ancient routes, infrastructures and fortifications, but also places of industrial archaeology linked to the collective imagination. Indeed the conservation of historic assets and the intervention of architecture both work synergistically, establishing a relationship of continuity with the history of the site and creating new relationships between the archaeological areas and their context.
