This contribution aims to outline the semantic value of the Moon within the artistic and literary production of painters-writers associated with the Metaphysical Art movement, with a focus on Giorgio De Chirico (1888-1978), Alberto Savinio (1891-1952), Filippo de Pisis (1896-1956), and Carlo Carrà (1881-1966). The principal purpose is to analyze the multiple meanings of the Moon and its relation with the Sun in these artworks. Although the landscapes are usually set during the hours of sunshine, reflecting an apparent absence of the Moon, the Moon still has a central function in Metaphysical artwork, as the moonlight is related to the greatest revelations.
