The essay aims to highlight how, in contemporary democracies, the strong interactions between representative assemblies and government - also considered as Executive branches - are leading to “eclipsing” parliaments' prerogatives. It also deals with the risks arising from these trends and the consequent verticalization of political power towards governments and supra-national entities, trying to underline the reasons behind such epilogue, in particular with regard to the tendency to address the issue of economic competition in terms of political competition.
