The article establishes the stem of the word studied as maṇḍvaï‑ ‘woman’ (instead of the previously suggested maṇḍī‑, mandiā‑, maṇḍaï‑), discusses its morphology, surveys and translates all the passages where the word occurs, and proposes deriving it from Old Iranian *manuš-u̯ant-akī‑ ‘married woman’.
