This article examines Plato's Theaetetus 187b-201c, in which the possibility of false opinion is discussed, which is indispensable in order to properly establish the legitimacy of true opinion and knowledge conceived as true opinion. The hypothesis is suggested that the paradoxes raised here regarding the possibility of false opinion depend on the ontological perspective deliberately assumed in the dialogue, which excludes the intelligible realm of ideas in favour of a purely sensible world in which the necessary criteria for distinguishing true from false do not exist.

Abstract
This article examines Plato's Theaetetus 187b-201c, in which the possibility of false opinion is discussed, which is indispensable in order to properly establish the legitimacy of true opinion and knowledge conceived as true opinion. The hypothesis is suggested that the paradoxes raised here regarding the possibility of false opinion depend on the ontological perspective deliberately assumed in the dialogue, which excludes the intelligible realm of ideas in favour of a purely sensible world in which the necessary criteria for distinguishing true from false do not exist.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
