This book is a summary of the PhD entitled “The decorative motifs of the low medieval coated ceramics of the Upper Lazio area starting from the Archaic Majolica of Cencelle (VT)”. The project aimed to survey, understand the genesis, and follow the evolution of the decorative motifs present on the Archaic Majolica (13th-15th century) of Cencelle (VT), relating them to the upper Lazio context. The study of ceramic decorations within a specific chronological and geographical area was in fact particularly interesting and useful to understand the extent of the exchanges to which the investigated site was subject, the dating of the individual artifact and of the entire discovery context, as well as the degree of complexity of the society that produced the object. A complexity that concerns the technological but also the economic, social, and cultural level. From this point of view, the decorations communicate information that would otherwise be complex to define and tell a world and a dimension that are difficult to observe in other ways.
