This article, of over one hundred and fifty printed pages, represents the largest survey on the theme of the transmission and evolution of the legend relating to Alexander the Great within Persian literature. The article illustrates the Greek foundations, the Syriac and Hebrew mediation, the hostilities of the Zoroastrian sphere, to get to outline the role that the figure of Alexander the Great acquires in the Islamic context and in particular in Persian literature, with analysis of exemplary texts of all literary genres, from the tenth- to the eighteenth century.
