Centri storici e "Letteratura architettonica". Le premesse per la salvaguardia della città esistente

In the 1950s Leonardo Benevolo wrote La conservazione dell’abitato antico a Roma. He noted the need to extend protection from monuments to the entire urban core, an insight that shaped the debate of the 60s and 70s. But the importance of recognising the historical centre as being unique rests on the definition of  architectural literature  developed by Roberto Pane. Through a reading of the writings of Pane, Zevi and Rogers, an attempt is made to recompose the focus on the historic city centre.
